Il Giornale d’Italia features an article by Pierfranco Faletti on the new Milan Policlinico Hospital, designed by Boeri Studio in central Milan and currently under construction.
The intervention area is adjacent to the historic Ca’ Granda complex, Milan’s first hospital, established in 1456 by Francesco Sforza and now home to the State University. The new hospital will offer 900 beds and a 7,000-square-meter rooftop garden with play areas for young patients, educational spaces, a small amphitheater for music and readings, flower gardens, vegetable plots, and outdoor rehabilitation paths, providing comfort to patients in rooms bathed in natural light from large windows. Every element has been designed to ensure maximum comfort and minimal stress, enhancing the healing journey for patients.
Among the main urban forestry projects planned for Milan, the Policlinico’s rooftop garden is uniquely enriched by the chromotherapeutic potential of its seasonal landscape. It also includes a rehabilitation garden with paths of varying difficulty, offering diverse surface types to aid recovery. This space is also designed to host special entertainment events for patients, staff, and the general public, supported by collaborations with Milan’s cultural and social institutions such as the Sormani Library, the Conservatory, the MuBa, and the Umanitaria Foundation, all in close partnership with the Policlinico Foundation.
