The first issue of 2018 of Time + Architecture magazine, published by the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) of Tongji University in China, features an article dedicated to Stefano Boeri’s involvement in the Shanghai Art Festival.

This issue, titled Application Driven: Artificial Intelligence and Cities/Architecture, focuses on AI algorithms and how their practical applications can help us explore the unknown areas and invisible logics of urban and spatial science.

In this context, the futuristic projects by Stefano Boeri Architetti, such as Seeds on Mars, and the more well-known ones, like the Vertical Forest in Milan (Boeri Studio, 2014) or the masterplan for Tirana2030, are presented in the article titled Linking Artistic Urban Spaces, Toward a Future of Urban Forestation.

The “Colony of Vertical Forests on Mars” was showcased at the entrance of the grand SUSAS 2017 exhibition, officially inaugurated on October 15 in the Minsheng Port district of Shanghai. The 2017 edition of the Shanghai Urban Space and Art Season was curated by Stefano Boeri, along with Li Xiangning, Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at Tongji University, and Fang Zhenning, an independent contemporary artist and international critic.

Stefano Boeri Architetti presented the Martian experiment through an installation equipped with augmented reality technology. Visitors could use the provided devices or download the Archi Maker application online to experience a visual representation of Mars in an interstellar future 100 years from now. Additionally, Radura, a conceptual installation by Stefano Boeri Architetti, made its debut in China, serving as an antenna within the Martian Colony to receive information from the past, present, and future.
