interview with Stefano Boeri

During the Chengdu World Horticultural Expo 2024, Stefano Boeri was interviewed by reporters from the Xinhua News Agency; in the interview, Boeri discussed his approach to architectural design, focusing on the dialogue between nature and urban life, and also highlighted China’s significant progress in creating “green cities,” highlighting how these are laying a solid foundation for achieving the country’s “double carbon” goals.

According to Boeri, China has made significant steps in recent years to improve urban reforestation and reduce air pollution.

“We are used to living in cities that are mineral environments, and for this reason I think that, what we have to do as architects, as urban planners, is to try to implement biological resources everywhere,” says Stefano Boeri.

“China has done tremendous steps in the direction of making cities greener, and that is something that is visible immediately when you land in Beijing, Nanjing, Shenzhen, or Shanghai. Everywhere you can see a tremendous effort in reducing air pollution, also with amazing steps in the direction of changing private mobility by introducing electricity as a basic tool. At the same time,I’ve seen a very important effort in introducing forests, woodlands and trees into private spaces in China.”
