Saturday October 28th saw the publication of episode 88 of the weekly podcast Clorofilla, focusing on environmental issues and featuring an interview with Francesca Cesa Bianchi, Partner and Director of Stefano Boeri Architetti.
The episode, entitled Urban Forestry Manifesto, focuses on the main issues and projects related to urban forestry.
The main theme concerns the benefits of trees – from shading and, therefore, reducing the heat island effect in cities, to the absorption of CO2 and particulate matter, the production of oxygen, and all the advantages related to the psychological benefits for citizens.
Francesca Cesa Bianchi also presented some of the firm’s projects, which treat living nature as an integral part of both architectural and urban design, as well as proposing sustainable solutions to improve the connectivity of green areas, creating ecological corridors that also affect small villages, or reusing Italy’s degraded building heritage, which counts about 4 million buildings, with the possibility of being regenerated without further land consumption.
These topics also featured at the World Forum on Urban Forests (WFUF2023), held in Washington D.C. from 16 to 20 October. Following the 2018 Forum held in Mantua – WFUF2023 has as its main theme Greener, Healthier and Happier Cities for All, to emphasise the importance of building inclusive cities in which the ecosystem goods and services of forests and trees are fairly and equally available to all city dwellers.
The event, of which Stefano Boeri Architetti is a technical partner, has Stefano Boeri as a member of the Scientific Committee.
