In the March 2023 issue of YouBuild magazine, an article by Gerardo Sembrebon focuses on Stefano Boeri’s career, on the occasion of the awarding of the Honorary Doctorate in Chemical, Geological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Milan-Bicocca.
The talk, entitled Perché la città sarà vegetale (Why the city will be vegetal), focuses on the philosophy behind the research and projects of Stefano Boeri and the Stefano Boeri Architetti studio, aimed at a blend of the vegetal and architectural spheres, integrating greenery as a founding element of the project.
A more environmentally friendly design is the starting point, represented by the Bosco Verticale in Milan and its declinations in various parts of the world, from Huanggang in China to Eindhoven in the Netherlands, to new experiments in arid climates.
At the same time, the Bosco Verticale is not a point of arrival, but of departure; it is the first example, a case study, that has given the opportunity to understand, study and, consequently, improve various aspects of this new architectural typology. The Bosco Verticale is just one of the ways of implementing urban forestation, one of the strategies through which it is possible to bring thousands of trees and plants into the heart of a built city.
